Bristol things...... - Thursday 06 March, 2008

If you live in Bristol or you're passin through, and you like a bit of the 'traditional' if not contemporary graff styles, be sure to nip into The Golden Lion at the top end of Gloucester Rd - or just stand outside!....a few fresh new canvasses by Magik and Voyder, two of the people responsible for the outside decoration. Not a huge amount to look at inside, (although a little Richt surprise to check too...) but definitely worth a visit for a nice Guinness and some positive and enjoyable paint on canvas by a couple of Bristol's younger new(ish) breed!

The UK’s seminal live contemporary and street art auction, Evolving Styles, returns to London this Christmas offering a rare chance to invest in works of art by the biggest names in the movement. In association with fashion label, Firetrap, original works by the likes of Blek le Rat, FAFI, Dave Kinsey, Faile, DAIM and New York graffiti legends, DAZE and CRASH, will go under the hammer, while audiences watch world-famous artists including renowned Los Angeles based ‘Spit Artist’ Albert Reyes, and the notorious Flying Förtress, paint canvases live, which will be auctioned off on the same night. Audiences can tune in from around the world to watch the live art auction, which will be broadcast in real-time over the internet to allow art buyers to bid online at this website.

On Friday, December 7, there will be exclusive appearances by Albert Reyes (USA), German art duo, Herakut (GER), Bristol based Mr Jago (UK) and Flying Förtress (GER) and Nick Walker (UK), all of whom will be performing live from 3p.m. Proceeds from the auction will be donated to SOS Children — the world’s largest orphan charity that looks after children who have lost their parents through war, famine, disease or poverty. Thanks to Mair, James, Alex, Darren, Ben, Gez, Matt, Mike, Paul, Andy, Carly, Duncan, Francis, Felix, and Moritz - we have your details, and you'll be able to buy the print in the usual way at 12 noon tomorrow. We're sorry if you aren't on that list, but please don't try to buy them tomorrow, we know who's who. All are slightly different, but we'll post an example for you to admire in a bit. Also, this list of names does not relate to which edition number you will get, just to nip that in the bud! If you can't be online at that tomorrow, don't worry, your print will still be safe.

All other orders for the full edition received at the time of writing (13.15 GMT) will be honoured, and we'll email you this afternoon to confirm that.

It's been a bit quiet.....no more!! - Monday 29 October, 2007

Here it is! Shockingly late and shockingly punchy! The long awaited Mr.Jago print is finally here - a beautiful 5 colour silkscreened representation of his amazing silk and gutta paintings. It's taken some serious work to turn this big silk piece into a striking print - this image not doing it justice whatsoever! Catching the fades of colour he gets with his silks, and the lovely loose dripping technique of the outline, this print will rock any Jago fans world - and definitely grab the attention of anyone else willing to let their eyes weep! There will be 15 pre-run very LTD AP's with Jago's own hand adding some delightful little scribbles, and the main run of 50 all being released at the same time at the end of the week.

jagosilkprintview

Just beyond the Jago release will be the fresh new Mau Mau print - to coincide with his exhibition at the Wonderful Workshop in Bristol, running throughout November (opening night on Friday 2nd) and his return from splashing some paint around in Thailand with the peeps at Souled Out Studios. Plus, a nice new small edition canvas triplet from Dicy - a little teaser for you below........

I was given a copy of this book recently, and perhaps due
to the editorial decisions of a Mr Tristan Manco, happy to
see that some of our number were featured. It's a big fat
hardback, but a great collection of work from all over the
world (Estonia, Singapore, South Africa, Australia as well
as the expected for example). Tristan is, as I'm sure you
know, a Bristol based afficianado and art activist who has
featured our artists work before in his books, and our thanks
are his once again. He has a great site, selling work from Brazilian
street artists here.

We've got pretty pictures at home too, so we thought we'd share.

Just so we can throw back our evil heads and bellow with
hateful envy-laughter..........mwahahahahaaaa!

There's alot of reasons you might want to be Mr Jago -
most of them misguided, but here's one good one. He's
got this drawing/painting which Xenz made as a pre-cursor
to one of his early LTH prints hanging on his wall. In fact, it's
not hanging so well - he elbowed it hoovering and broke the

Email problems - Monday 04 June, 2007

Technical 'itches here, so you probably haven't received confirmation from us if you just bought a Xenz print. Thanks to Ben, Catherine, Darren, Sally (good stuff!), Gareth and Robert, you got in first.

We will surely be giving you plenty of notice when the next full edition of 50 (new work) is arriving, thanks for your support everyone.

Also, it seems that not all of you on our mailing list received the heads up regarding these prints - we can't currently explain that, but we'll look into it, and pass on our apologies if this happened to you.

China Mike print delivery - Wednesday 16 May, 2007

We managed to print the full edition before China hand-finished the limited, and tried to start sending them all out instead! We shall be posting first thing next week, and only have three left by the way - they look fantastic.

Mr Jago details - Friday 11 May, 2007

Sold Out again - Tuesday 08 May, 2007

The new canvasses have sold out within minutes. Thanks to Neil and Adam. We're noticing that some orders aren't entering our system straight away, and we think this is because you lot aren't clicking 'Return To Merchant' after paying via PayPal. It's important that you do this (strangely), as we don't receive your order straight away if you don't so you might miss out. More soon..

Canvasses Section - Tuesday 08 May, 2007

Just to assure you that we did have some canvasses! They sold out rather quickly, with all three gone within a couple of hours. I am adding three more pieces from Dicy today, and we'll start sending out notifications to our mailing list when we're going to drop new pieces. Thanks to Neil and Matt.

Saffron! It's not us! - Saturday 05 May, 2007

Little note for Saffron - think you must have a problem your end, we sent you lots of emails. Anyway, we do not have and will not be printing any more Xenz 'Birds' prints - worth announcing as we are still fielding alot of requests. We do have a trick up our sleeves, but we're not parting with it yet..

As well as the hand finished China Mike 'Shoreditch' print, canvasses will also be available as of Monday morning in our new section - the first three from Dicy, with pieces to follow in the months ahead from Mr Jago, Ziml, and Xenz (if he hasn't sold them all already..). This will be a regular fixture now, and we have some other additions to the site in the pipeline as well.

Here it is nice and big so you can see the touches - looks lovely in the flesh.

Will Barras exhibition in Bristol - Wednesday 25 April, 2007

Workshop is proud to present an exhibition of new artwork by Will Barras.

Will Barras along with Mr Jago and Steff Plaetz is one of the original Scrawl Collective members.

He is one of those artists that it is almost impossible to copy because, well everyone knows it as his style and his alone. Over the years, Will has developed from the hip hop and skater/bmx graphics which made his name into areas a great deal wilder and more unpredictable. This unwillingness to be pinned down has served him well and helped him free himself from the associations that once would have pigeonholed him all too neatly. He went through a rodeo period at one point furiously painting riders atop raging bulls this evolved into an interest in hunting scenes set against strangely coloured sunsets. Since then his work has become increasingly psychedelic and his murals, well, just strange.

Show opening night, Friday 4th May 6pm-9pm
All artwork will be on sale and up for one month.....

Update: 2nd April 2007: Cheers Ben!
